Trekking and excursions

Our first suggestion is Cueva del Tesoro (Treasure Cave), about 13 kilometers from the center of Malaga. The cave is one of three examples of marine caves in the world, and the only one in Europe, and dates back to the Jurassic period. Great legends surround the cave and its treasure. According to the most famous, a huge treasure in gold coins belonging to the Almoravid royal family was hidden in the cave. Let a guide accompany you, who, as they lead you among the impressive stalactites and stalagmites, illuminated to highlight their karst details, will be able to tell you this and other fascinating stories.

The Torcal trail, a 15-minute drive from the centre of Malaga, is perfect for mountain walking enthusiasts.

The trail is arduous but suitable for everyone, and will allow you to feel like Neil Armstrong for a few hours: the terrain you’ll be walking on is reminiscent of the lunar surface. You’ll also be able to admire the rocks along the trail, stacked one on top of the other like immense Russian dolls.

The Torcal is the natural habitat of the majestic Iberian ibex, which in some places, if undisturbed, can be observed from afar. Alternatively, we recommend another popular trail among outdoor enthusiasts: Acequia del Guadalmina, a 4.5-kilometer circular route, also suitable for children. Here, an hour’s drive from Malaga, you can cross the bridge built over the Rio Guadalmina and admire the view of the greenery below. Continue along the flat path that runs alongside a stream, stopping at the vantage points for truly breathtaking views. You’ll feel dwarfed by the natural surroundings!

Beaches

If you dream of summer year-round and are looking for the perfect place to spend moments of pure relaxation under the sun, we recommend visiting some of Malaga’s most famous beaches, a destination for travelers from around the world. Among these, the protected nature reserve of Playa del Peñón del Cuervo and Playa de la Misericordia are worth a visit. The Peñón is a majestic rock that divides the 450-meter coastline in two, creating a breathtaking view. You can admire it while relaxing on the fine, dark sand, or simply relax while swimming in the azure Mediterranean waters. At Playa de la Misericordia, you’ll notice an unusual phenomenon called the mellilero wave: a very small, sudden and rapid rise in sea level following the turn of the high-speed ferry Trasmediteranea.

In Marbella, 60 kilometers from Malaga, you can’t miss Playa Nagüeles and Playa Hermosa. The former is a popular beach destination for VIPs and celebrities; the latter, lapped by crystal-clear waters, offers water sports rentals and a fun afternoon on the Costa del Sol.

Yunquera Fair

Malaga hosts various fairs and festivals in October to celebrate its patron saints. Among these, we highlight the Yunquera Fair. Here, you can discover Spain’s rich culture and traditions by attending traditional theatrical and musical performances, as well as admiring a performance of one of Spain’s most famous dances: flamenco. Activities are also organized for children, who will have the opportunity to learn about Spain’s fascinating history firsthand.
